Learn to fly with Certified Flight Instructor Brandon Lee

Update: Brandon is now employed with a major airline and no longer instructs

Looking for a rewarding career as a pilot?  Has earning a Private Pilot License been on your bucket list? Are you wondering where to start?

We have good news. You can learn to fly with Certified Flight Instructor and member of The Works – Gilbert, Brandon Lee.  When Brandon isn’t managing 36 by Design, one of the valley’s premier ACT & SAT test preparation teams, he’s in the airspace around the state of Arizona training student pilots.

He’s an educator. When he was a student, he earned a perfect ACT score and the National Merit Scholarship. He’s unlocked the secrets of instruction and knowledge retention. When it comes to aviation, there is plenty of information to absorb. When you’re looking for the right CFI, you want one who understands how students retain information so that the student experience can be a personalized one.

Here are the requirements and limitations for solo flight by a student pilot:

– Must be at least 17 years old and able to read, speak, write and understand English.
– Have a student pilot certificate and at least a Third-Class medical certificate. You can find an Aviation Medical Examiner here.
– Pass a written knowledge test covering Parts 61 and 91 of the Federal Aviation Regulations, airspace rules, and regulations and flight characteristics, and operational limitations for the make and model of aircraft to be flown.
– Receive and log flight training from a certified flight instructor on the maneuvers and procedures appropriate to the make and model of aircraft to be flown, and demonstrate satisfactory proficiency in these maneuvers, including those listed in  14 CFR 61.87:
– Proper flight preparation procedures, including preflight planning and preparation, power plant operation, and aircraft systems
– Taxiing and surface operations, including run-ups
– Takeoffs and landings, including normal and crosswind
– Straight and level flight, and turns in both directions
– Climbs & climbing turns
– Airport traffic patterns, including entry and departure procedures
– Emergency procedures and equipment malfunctions
– Ground reference maneuvers
– Approaches to a landing area with simulated engine malfunctions
– Slips to a landing
– Collision avoidance, wind-shear avoidance, and wake turbulence avoidance
– Descents, with and without turns, using high and low drag configurations
– Flight at various airspeeds from cruise to slow flight
– Stall entries from various flight attitudes and power combinations with recovery initiated at the first indication of a stall, and recovery from a full stall
– Go-arounds

Arizona is Aviation-friendly

We’re fortunate to have great weather in Arizona. It’s no surprise that we have an active, vibrant aviation community in the Valley.  In fact, 4 of the top 10 busiest General Aviation Airports in the United States are in Arizona.

  • Phoenix Deer Valley (DVT), Phoenix, Arizona
  • Ernest A. Love Field (KPRC), Prescott, Arizona
  • Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport (KIWA), Phoenix, Arizona
  • Falcon Field (KFFZ), Mesa, Arizona

Brandon has been conducting his training in the sleek and nimble Storm Century aircraft. This is a low-wing, 2-seat aircraft, with a clear canopy offering outstanding visibility for pilot and passenger. Want to see if N765RL is in the air right now?  If it’s flying, you can check it out here on Flightaware.

What airports does Brandon fly out of? He’s currently based out of KIWA (Mesa Gateway Airport – a few miles East of The Works – Gilbert), he also spends time training at KFFZ (Falcon Field) and KCHD (Chandler).

Your first step is to schedule a discovery flight with Brandon. For more information about becoming a Private Pilot text or call Brandon at 480-787-8888.
