Benefits of Using a Standing Desk

In recent years, standing desks have gained popularity as a healthy alternative to traditional sitting desks. A standing desk is a workstation that allows the user to stand while working, as opposed to sitting in a chair. There are many benefits of using a standing desk, and in this article, we will explore some of the most important ones.

What are the Benefits of using a Standing Desk?

First and foremost, standing desks can improve your overall health. Studies have shown that sitting for long periods of time can increase the risk of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. By standing, you burn more calories, improve circulation, and reduce your risk of these health issues. Standing desks can also help alleviate back pain, as they encourage good posture and reduce pressure on the lower back.

Another benefit of standing desks is that they can improve your mood and productivity. When you stand, you increase blood flow to your brain, which can help you stay focused and alert. Many people find that they are more productive when standing, as they are less likely to feel tired or sluggish. Additionally, standing desks can help reduce stress, as they give you the opportunity to move around and stretch your muscles throughout the day.

Standing desks can also help you live longer. A study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology found that people who sat for six or more hours a day had a higher mortality rate than those who sat for three hours or less. Another study, published in the European Heart Journal, found that standing for just two hours a day can lower your risk of premature death by up to 10%.

For example, people with varicose veins or edema may find that standing helps reduce swelling and discomfort in their legs. Additionally, standing desks can be helpful for people with arthritis or other joint problems, as standing puts less pressure on the joints than sitting.

One of the greatest benefits of using a standing desk is that they can be easily customized to fit your individual needs. You can adjust the height of your desk to find the perfect position for you. This is especially important for people who are taller or shorter than average, as they may have trouble finding a chair that fits them properly. With a standing desk, you can tailor your workspace to fit your body, which can help reduce discomfort and increase productivity.  The standing desks at The Works can easily accommodate even the tallest of our members.

Cons of using a Standing Desk

Of course, there are some downsides to using a standing desk. Standing for long periods of time can be tiring, especially if you are not used to it. Additionally, standing for too long can lead to foot and leg pain. It’s important to take breaks and sit down periodically throughout the day to give your body a rest. Comfortable shoes are a tremendous help as well.

Another potential downside of standing desks is that they can be more expensive than traditional desks. However, the cost may be worth it in the long run, as the health benefits of standing desks can help you avoid costly medical bills down the road.

If you are considering switching to a standing desk, there are a few things you should keep in mind. First, it’s important to ease into it gradually. Start by standing for short periods of time throughout the day, and gradually increase the amount of time you spend standing. Additionally, make sure you have comfortable shoes and a supportive mat to stand on.

In conclusion, there are wide ranging benefits of using a standing desk, from improved health and productivity to reduced stress and better posture. While there are some downsides to using a standing desk, these can be mitigated by taking breaks and easing into standing gradually. If you are looking for a way to improve your health and wellbeing, a standing desk may be a great option for you.

The Works – Gilbert is installing Standing Desksir?t=oranbladcons 20&language=en US&l=li3&o=1&a=B09H2B8LRR

That’s right. We are in the process of converting most desks at The Works to Standing Desks. We’re only a week in to the transition, and it’s been amazingly well received.

We were concerned that after installing the standing desks the novelty would wear off.  Our members would stand for a short time, and then start sitting…….and stay sitting.  That hasn’t been the case.

Our Standing Desks are available to our full-time members as well as those who have come in on a Day Pass or 5-day Pass.
